Sing We Now of Christmas
by Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy
Publisher: Rebel Ink Press
Length: 44,300 Words, eBook Format
Sub-Genre(s): Contemporary, Holiday-Themed (Christmas)

BLURB:
When Jessica Martin met Johnny Devereaux that December, holiday magic filled the air but their love was no enchantment….he was, without doubt the love of her life and by summer, they were happy newlyweds with all their life and holidays ahead.
But when he failed to return home from a fishing trip on the Fourth of July, Jessica’s world is rocked to the foundation and when the authorities tell her that her husband is missing, presumed dead, she refuses to believe it.
As the months and seasons pass, no one else holds out hope but Jessica believes.
She knows he’ll be home for Christmas no matter what. Her family calls her crazy, Johnny’s family tries to help her find closure but Jessica’s heart refuses to surrender hope.
When Christmas comes, the truth will come out to shock them all.

Book trailer - http://youtu.be/mLQBf90xFMM

EXCERPT:
“How did you know that’s what I was thinking?”
“I know you,” he said, “I don’t know how but I know you, inside. I may not know yet what your favorite color is,”
“Red,”
“Or what season you love the most,”
“Christmas,” she supplied and he grinned.
“Or if you are seeing someone,”
Jessica smiled at him, feeling a rush of affection for him. “I am now.”
Johnny understood; she watched the knowledge of it soften his features and curl his lips into a sweet smile. “Darlin’, you’re my woman, just like that. I never saw it coming but now that you’re here, I’m glad. I’ve wanted someone like you in my life for so long but I never knew your name or what you looked like. I always kind of figured that my heart would recognize you when you showed up.”
“Did it?” Her voice sounded normal with no hint of the tears that ached within at his tender words.
He released her hands to put his right one in the center of his chest, over his heart.
“Oh, yeah, Jessica Martin, it totally did.”
No guy ever said such romantic things to her. His words weren’t flowery or fancy but delivered in that Oklahoma twang; she savored each one and filed it away in memory to keep forever. Before she could think up something to say back, the waitress brought their food and he took her hands in his again, this time to ask a blessing.
After that, hungry, they ate. First, they had the homemade soup, perfect for the cold winter’s night, then they enjoyed the rest of the meal. Although the food was tasty, the burger juicy, the bacon crisp, and fries just right, Jessica could have dined on oatmeal and been just as happy. They never stopped talking, their pauses timed to accommodate the other’s answers and by the time they headed back out into the snow-filled night, they both knew the basic life history of the other.
And more important than that they knew how much they loved each other, for now and for always.

One Brave Cowboy

This eBook courtesy of NetGalley and Harlequin.

Favorite quote: “THE NAME’S COUGAR. JUST COUGAR. ONE NAME IS ENOUGH.”

Behind the bravado was a complex man. War hero. “Indian cowboy.” Walking wounded in search of answers. Cougar needed to build a new life, and he’d start with what he loved most. Horses. Which brought him to the Double D Wild Horse Sanctuary. And into the orbit of ranch volunteer Celia Banyon and her very special son.

The boy had suffered an unspeakable accident, and his mother felt unspeakable guilt. But something about Cougar brought her back from the brink. He represented her chance to be a woman again. Now, suddenly, one name wasn’t enough for what they could have if they’d just let themselves. Healing. Love. Family. Forever. In fact, the possibilities were endless…

I love Kathleen Eagle's books and she's done it again with this one!
Cougar is one of the best heroes I've read in a while, he has lots of problems but he isn't afraid to admit them and he's definitely working on them. He has a big heart because as many problems as he has to work on he doesn't back down from helping others too. I love watching the connection develop between him and Mark and Flyboy. Cougar is afraid to take a chance with Celia; he's unsure of what he'll do, but the appeal of a lovely woman, a kindred soul in the body of a horse, and a wonderful little boy just might be what's needed to heal them all.

Celia suffers terrible guilt over Mark's accident. She also suffers the pain of custody visits by her ex, who she knows is fighting for a big settlement to be gotten by his ambulance chasing attorney. The less she sees of her ex, the better off both she and Mark will be.

So if you want to read a feel good romance with a wonderful cowboy hero this is for you!

A Cowboy to Marry

This eBook was courtesy of NetGalley and Harlequin.

Libby Lowell's mind is made up. The only way for the widow to go forward with her life is to leave Laramie, Texas, behind. She should have known rugged rancher Holden McCabe would try to stop her! Her husband's best friend is Libby's fiercest protector. It's not that she doesn't want or need Holden's broad shoulder to cry on. But it's time to put away the past.

Holden isn't letting Libby get away so easily. He hasn't forgotten how she turned to him in her hour of need—and the painful secret she shared. But his idea to push them both into moving on backfires when passion leads to pregnancy…something Libby's wanted for so long.

Is this their biggest mistake…or the second chance they've both been searching for?

This was a sweet sexy romance and is perfect for getting in the holiday spirit. I liked both the main characters and I like the friends to lovers story line. I finished this book with a sigh and the strong urge to find me a cowboy to go looking for mistletoe with, Holden made the perfect hero if I could only find one like him in real life! The addition of the library side plot was also fun and brought out the small town feel. This is a fun read to get swept up in. I'll give it 4 stars.

Last Call

This book courtesy of the LibraryThing early reviewer.

While on vacation, a night out turns into a drunken haze, and Novalee Jensen wakes up hung over, confused, and… married? Fleeing Nevada, Novalee returns home to Montana to hide out, dreading the moment when her husband will show up to take her hard-earned business. But two years later just when Novalee thinks her secret is safe, guess who walks through her door? Now, face-to-face with the man she left in a hotel room two years ago, Novalee discovers the difficult part isn't having to explain her actions that night, or the questions that arise about the sexy stranger's arrival, it's keeping her hands off her husband. And what's Novalee to do when the hardest part turns out not to be confronting her past, but facing a possible future without her soon-to-be ex-husband?

Multi-millionaire Dean Philips wakes up in a Las Vegas hotel room to find the pretty blonde he married the night before gone. The piece of paper he possesses proves she served her purpose, and guilt ridden over his actions, Dean begins a battle with his father for a fight for his grandfather’s fortune. When Dean is ordered to have his wife appear in court, he finds himself in a small town in Montana, looking for the woman who ran off two years ago. Caught up in secrets and lies of his own, he has to find a way to persuade her to come back to Vegas with him without having her find out that she's the missing puzzle piece to everything he's been fighting for. But when Dean decides to mix a little pleasure with business, he suddenly finds himself in unfamiliar territory that could cost him everything

Not your run of the mill romance story, with lots of twist and turns the plot keeps you interested and the characters share a chemistry that is amazing. Ms Schmidt succeeds in making a cliché plot into something different, not your typical go to Vegas, get drunk, wake up married story! I found myself rooting for Novalee and Dean to make it after the first chapter or two! A fun, interesting and unique contemporary romance I give it 4 stars!

One Night in London

This eBook is courtesy of NetGalley and Harper Collins/Avon.

This is the first in “The Truth About A Duke” trilogy. This is the trilogy of three brothers,”Edward the logical, responsible brother; Gerard the independent man of action; and Charlie the enigma”, who find out on their father’s death bed,he had a major secret that could destroy their inheritance and their lives.

A bargain that was all business . . . and pure passion.

Neither wealth nor beauty will help Lady Francesca Gordon win custody of her young niece Georgina, saving the girl from a cruel stepmother; she needs London’s top solicitor for that. But when Edward de Lacey, son of the powerful Duke of Durham, hires away the one man who can do the job, Francesca decides Edward himself must champion her case . . . if only she can melt the dashing lord’s stony heart.

Edward has reason to be guarded, though. London’s tabloids have just exposed a secret that could ruin his entire family. When Francesca offers a unique chance to undo the damage, Edward is forced to agree to a partnership . . . and now, each moment together feeds the flames of his scandalous longing for the passionate widow. But when Georgina disappears, fate will test them both . . . and leave their love hanging in the balance.

This is the first book by Caroline Linden I have read, but it won't be my last! I loved it! The writing drew me in and kept me turning pages until the very end. I really warmed to the characters. Francesca was daring and sassy, but she also brought out Edward's sensual and warm side that had been hiding since the very beginning. They were a great pair that I very much enjoyed getting to know as the story went on. Edward was a different person when he was around Francesca, their personalities complemented each other very well. I will be looking forward to the next book in this series because this one definitely leaves you wondering!!

Something So Right

This ebook was courtesy of NetGalley and Carina Press.
After having her heart broken, Lily Carver ran north to manage an upscale resort—and back to her longtime friend Sam Denning. Though she's well aware of how hot Sam's become, she refuses to risk her heart again. No matter how incredible his kisses make her feel…
Sam's been in love—and lust—with Lily since the summer they met. When he finally shows her how much he wants her, Lily can't resist his seduction. But Sam's a forever kind of guy and she's only interested in short, painless relationships.
Lily thinks she can protect both their hearts with a short affair to let their passion run its course, something where they both know the rules and can explore the sparks between them without getting burned. But their best-laid plans are put to the test by their undeniable attraction—and by a secret Sam's been keeping from Lily that could ruin everything.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, the concept of best friends to lovers is a great one. The only issue I had was in the fact that if Sam and Lily are such close friends and have been for so long why didn't he know about her previous relationship? And with Lily I kind of wanted to say it's been 5 years get over it!  lol  Ms. Mady did a great job with the characters and I did love them and was glad they got their HEA.

The Last Cowboy

This eBook was courtesy of Harlequin and NetGalley in exchange for review.

The Iconic Cowboy: Pure alpha male, fiercely protective of all he holds dear. The last of a dying breed. Otherwise known as a pain in the rear.

City Girl. It was written all over her like a sign warning him to keep off. Sure, Slade McPherson would train her horse… With his ranch one bad day away from foreclosure, he can’t afford to turn away a paying customer. But no way is this cowboy getting involved with a woman like Jordana Lawton—no matter how pretty she looks in a saddle.

Yet everything can change in an instant. A terrifying run-in with an angry bull tilts Slade’s world off its axis, leaving him wounded and unable to compete in a race that could change his future, for good. With Jordana by his side, he just might stand a chance. But what happens when this old-school cowboy finds himself falling for a modern city girl?

The Last Cowboy got me at page one and held me until the final page. The characters had depth and the plot moved quickly. The storyline was believable and the romance is fresh. This was a really sweet tale of two people learning to love and trust again. It is set around a horse ranch that trains for endurance races so it helps that I love horses.
Slade is the sexy rancher who has had way more than his share of bad luck in his life, Jordana is the woman who could see thru his stubborn exterior to the man underneath. Theirs is a sweet romance and I think they had a solid foundation to build on.

The story itself is strong enough to keep you Interested. The book is left wide open for another installment, looking forward to that.

Enticed by His Forgotten Lover

This book was courtesy of NetGalley and Harlequin.
"Have we met?"
Answer: a right hook! Because Bryony Morgan pulls no punches. Even when she's very pregnant and facing down the father of her unborn child. She fell for wealthy hotelier Rafael de Luca when he courted her for her beachfront real estate. Then he disappeared. Now, she's in New York for answers—and she won't accept a brush-off.

But selective amnesia after a crash has Rafael puzzled. How could he ever forget a combustible beauty like Bryony? Solution: return to the island where they met, and relive the unforgettable nights in question—until he remembers everything…

I absolutely love this book. Of course I've never read anything by Maya Banks I didn't like. This is one of those short sweet feel good reads. Rafael does some of the best groveling I've read in a while! I adored the character of Bryony's grandmother, she was so cute and feisty. I highly recommend this book!

All About Seduction

This ebook was courtesy of NetGalley and Harper Collins Publishers.

She had never known passion like this…
Caroline Broadhurst is about to take a lover— at her husband’s command. For fifteen years, Caroline has done everything her much older husband has desired—except provide an heir. Now he has given her an ultimatum: seduce a suitable gentleman and bear a son. Caroline would never think of bowing to such a shameful order, but then she meets Jack Applegate.
Jack has longed for the beautiful, untouchable Caroline for years, but the chasm between them was too wide to ever dream of crossing. Now, fate and passion have thrown them together, but the potential scandal threatens to smother their love. And when a violent secret comes to light, only a terrible sacrifice will prevent the flame of their affection from being snuffed out forever . . .
While the characterizations were good in this book, I didn't like the plot. I read romance to escape for a few hours and this book just left me uptight. Caroline had endured too much and that her family, her husband and her brother would treat her this way just left me cold. Too much description of bad love scenes was depressing.

Eyewall

This book was courtesy of Bell Bridge Books and NetGalley.

St. Simons Island, Georgia, has never been hit by a Category 5 hurricane. Until now. No one predicted the storm's sudden force. A crippled Air Force recon plane, trapped in the eye of a violent hurricane. An outspoken tropical weather forecaster, fired from his network TV job before he can issue a warning: the storm is changing course and intensifying. A desperate family searching for a runaway daughter on Georgia's posh St. Simons Island, cut off from escape as the hurricane roars toward them. A marriage on the rocks; an unrequited sexual attraction; a May-December romance. All will be swept up by the monster storm. Get ready for a white-knuckle adventure.

This is a must read book! I got started and could not put it down until I was done! Having lived in the south all my life and having been thru several hurricanes and losing two homes to hurricanes in my life this book was a very interesting and emotional read for me.
The book is very well written with very good character development. I was especially intrigued by how the author brought all of the characters together who otherwise would have never known each other. By the time I finished reading the book I kept having to remind myself that it really was fiction, the author did such a wonderful job of making the story believable and realistic. As a side note the authors bio is a very interesting read too!!

Be the People: A Call to Reclaim America’s Faith and Promise

by Carol M. Swain PhD.

I received this book from Booksneeze in exchange for a review.

In Be the People Ms. Swain does a great job of presenting the problems we as a nation face and backing them up with facts. I agree with her on many topics included in this book. As an American of faith I see the way this country is changing and wonder with sadness what will become of us if we do not reclaim America.
This book should make you want to look deeper into issues such as abortion, marriage, immigration, politics and our religious freedoms in America, help you to want to stand up and make a difference and become a praying patriot again!

Ecstasy Untamed by Pamela Palmer

The e-book galley was courtesy of netGalley.

They are called Feral Warriors -- an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by secrecy and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release...

Shattered by recent nightmarish events, Hawke feels his bond with his animal spirit weakening -- and once it breaks, he's finished. The arrival of Faith sends his life spinning even further out of control, for although she delights him and enflames his deepest primal passions, she's promised to Maxim, the newest Feral Warrior.

Faith is drawn to Hawke from the start, but Maxim holds her in his thrall and has secretly bent her to his malevolent will. Though gravely damaged, Hawke is the only one who can end Faith's slavery and protect the Feral Warriors from Maxim's evil designs. But first they both must embrace the wild...and surrender body and soul to a forbidden, all-consuming ecstasy.

This was the first paranormal romance I have read. Just never interested before. Once I got into it I couldn't put it down! Ms. Palmer did a wonderful job with the characters, the "connection" between Hawke and Faith was awesome, and I really loved hating Maxim! Now I have to go back and read the rest of the series. Ms. Palmer you have hooked me on paranormal!

The Game of Love

"Love is nothing in tennis. But in life, it's everything."
my favorite quote from the book!

From the back of the book...

Chris St. James is ready for normal. After walking away from her pro tennis career and a toxic relationship with a star hockey player, she's starting a new life as a teacher and tennis coach in a small town. Now all she needs is an average guy to share it with.

Brett Wallace is no average guy. Forced to retire from the NFL after an injury—and suddenly single after being dumped by his status-conscious wife—he's returned to his hometown to coach the varsity football team. Wary of women interested only in his celebrity, Brett finds Chris's indifference to his former career refreshing.

The last thing Chris needs is to get involved with another pro athlete, but she can't deny the sparks that fly between them. So she agrees to a purely physical, no-strings-attached affair. But the rules of the game change when she falls for him…

This was a great fall afternoon escape! I really felt sorry for Chris and her family situation but thought she handled it rather well. As for Brett and his family some of their stunts had me laughing out loud, they were great. I adored Brett from the very beginning he was so typical of his character, wasn't really sure about Chris, she seemed a little over the top in her "fear" of getting involved with a pro athlete. But then I was surprised at how awful her previous relationship was, he was an ass and only got more professional at that thru the story. Sure was glad Chris got over her fears! Has a great HEA ending!

I would def recommend this one if you like contemporary romance with a sports theme.

Two Graves

I received this book from the Library Thing member giveaway in exchange for a review.

From the description: Forty year old Preston Peterson, pudgy, myopic and socially inept, knows the terror of being bullied. From his earliest childhood memory, he has faced ridicule, name calling, harassment and beatings. Fear ruled his life, possessed him, controlled his every encounter with others. Now, he has killed. Now, rage rules his life. Digging out his despised High School year book, Preston uses computer aged photographs to find and kill look-alikes of his persecutors. The time has come for those who bullied him to pay the ultimate price for their torture. Preston is getting even and everyone is a target. But with a panicked city and Lieutenant Gregg Mann's task force looking for him, Preston should have remembered the Chinese proverb, "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig TWO GRAVES."

I really enjoyed this book! couldn't put it down! The unique thing about it was that you were getting the story from the point of view of the police and the killer. Plus it was like two stories woven together, the "mafia guys" and the "serial killer".

Jockeys and Jewels

I received this e-book in the Library Thing member giveaway in exchange for review.

From the back of the book: Racehorse trainer, Kurt MacKinnon, resents being yanked into undercover police work. But when his ex-partner is murdered, Kurt is determined to find the killer and moves his third-string Thoroughbreds to the backwater track where his partner was last seen alive.

Julie West, struggling apprentice jockey, pins her dreams of an elusive win on the new trainer in town, never suspecting she’s a person of interest—and not because of her riding ability.

Kurt didn’t expect his contrary colt to flourish under Julie’s feminine touch nor for his own rusty heart to soften. However, his deceit sucks them both into the cross-hairs of a killer, and suddenly much more than their love is in danger.

Loved this book, I am a horse nut so this was a great read for me. Kept me entertained all the way thru! I laughed thru parts of it and cried some too. Kurt was very real and made me really think about what it meant to work undercover and have to maintain a certain personality. Only thing is the title gives away the mystery, which was quite a spoiler.

Kissing Comfort

From the back of the book:
Bode DeLong knows that his playboy brother Bram isn't really in love with Miss Comfort Kennedy, even though it's clear that she's enamored with him. With Bram's motives for the engagement suspect, Bode figures the safest place for Comfort to be is in his arms. Now, Bode just needs to convince Comfort that the childhood fancy she has for his brother is no match for the incredible desire that sparks between them every time they touch.

This was thanks to Goodreads giveaways.

This is the first book I have read from Jo Goodman. I really enjoyed the book. Comfort's "Uncles" had me laughing out loud. I did get a little confused in the beginning between Bram and Bode (which was which) but that's prob attributable to old age! LOL
I really liked Bode, he was so "devoted" to Comfort without really letting her know it, I think she is too independent to have put up with
much! I'm glad she finally came around to his way of thinking!

Moving!

Have just recently moved to North Carolina from Florida!  I love NC and being close to lots of family, but I will certainly miss FL and my parents, worry about them so much!
