Heart Signs by Cari Quinn GIVEAWAY

Title:  Heart Signs
Author:  Cari Quinn
Publisher:  Ellora's Cave
Length:  45,000 words
Genres:Contemporary, Erotic

BLURB:
The heart has a language all its own...

Rory Fowler has taken Sam Miller’s billboard orders for the last two years, but they aren’t to advertise, they’re love notes to his wife. Sam’s most recent billboard about his wife’s passing hits Rory hard. When she calls Sam to offer condolences, it sets off an unexpected chain of events that ends with Rory in Sam’s apartment...and his arms. Reading Sam’s love letters tugs Rory into the romance between him and his estranged, now-deceased, wife. Their lives soon intertwine so completely that Rory wonders how she’ll ever forget the man who makes poetry out of emotions she’s fought to dismiss. And plays her body even more skillfully than he writes love notes. Consumed by guilt and grief, Sam is shocked by the feelings Rory arouses in him, sexually and otherwise. Now he’s not thinking about yesterday as much as he’s looking forward to tomorrow. He’s just not sure if he’s capable of moving on...or if the woman who helped him find the will to really live again will be by his side.

EXCERPT
“Yes, I remember you.” Sam’s long pause encouraged her knee to jitter more. “I thought you were a man, Rory.”
“Why? Because I like sports?”
“No. Of course not. Well, maybe,” he admitted. “You know so much about them.”
“Yeah, I do. Women enjoy sports. Newsflash—some even play them.” Rory hoped she sounded as if she were teasing rather than irritated. She wasn’t mad. More than anything she was a little amazed. She couldn’t believe they were finally having an actual conversation.
Some women idolized rock singers or movie stars. Other than her long-held and unavoidable crush on Tom Brady, the only man she’d ever crushed on from afar was Sam Miller.
Another woman’s husband. Or he had been. He still was, she supposed. And always would be. Death didn’t erase what had come before and she had no doubt that he’d been completely, irrevocably in love.
“I know that. But the kind of shows you watch—”
“You mean the ones with potty humor?” She shrugged, knowing he couldn’t see her. “What can I say? I have a juvenile outlook on the world.”
“Thanks a lot.”
The amusement in his tone bolstered her self-assurance. “Maybe you didn’t think I was female because I don’t put smiley faces at the end of all my sentences?”
She most certainly was not a smiley face girl. Actually she’d be more likely to use emoticons if they indicated less politically correct gestures. The occasional well-placed graphical middle finger, for example. Not that she’d ever do that with customers, but some of her interfering relatives like her boss? A definite possibility.
“No, because of your name. Rory isn’t usually feminine.”
“Neither am I.”

REVIEWS:

“Final verdict? Lovable characters, intense emotions and mind melting hot sex. Erotica doesn’t get any better than this.” 4.5/5--MBR's Realm of Romance

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Bestselling, multi-published author Cari Quinn wrote her first story--a bible parable--in 2nd grade, much to the delight of the nuns at her Catholic school. Once she saw the warm reception that first tale garnered, she was hooked. She attempted her first romance in junior high, long before she'd ever read one. Writing what she knew always took a backseat to what she wanted to know, and that still holds true today.
Though she also fires up her computer as a graphic designer, proofreader and editor, she can't resist the lure of disappearing into a world of her own creation. Now she gets to pen sexy romances for a living and routinely counts her lucky stars.

Hawthorne by Sarah Ballance

Title:  Hawthorne
Author:  Sarah Ballance
Release Date:  July 2011
Publisher:  Astraea Press
Blurb:
After a terrifying encounter with the unexplained, it took ten years and the news of her grandmother’s passing for Emma Grace Hawthorne to return to her childhood home. She sought peace in saying a proper goodbye, but what she found was an old love, a sordid family history, and a wrong only she could right.
Living in the shadow of Hawthorne Manor, Noah Garrett never forgot about Emma Grace. In a house full of secrets, his search for missing documents revealed a truth that could cost him everything. What he found gave Emma the freedom to walk away from the mansion, her heart free and clear, but at what price to Noah?

IMHO:  Hawthorne is a well put together love story with a touch of mystery and paranormal too. I thought the characters were very believable and I found myself completely immersed in the story. I was very surprised at the ending. The story took quite a few unexpected twists and turns, especially at the end. I highly recommend this short story for anyone who likes mystery/paranormal.

Amazon:  Hawthorne
Barnes and Noble:  Hawthorne

About the Author:
Sarah lives a charmed life as the mother of six incredible homeschooled children, all of whom are completely adorable when they're asleep. Her husband of many years (long, long years, he calls them) is the kind of guy who could teach those heroes from the books a thing or two about romance, not that he'd readily admit it. Completely supportive of her love for writing romance and romantic suspense, he's generously offered to help with any necessary research for "the good parts"…and she's never had to ask twice.

Spotlight on: Bodyguard of Lies

A BODYGUARD OF LIES
has a dual setting, a contemporary one and a WWII/London setting. It's a blend of romance, mystery and WWII espionage. I researched it while in England, Ireland and Germany in 2009. The story involves a Jewish-American FBI analyst, who's recruited by MI-5 to go undercover and investigate a naturalized American grandmother. The elderly woman is suspected by MI-5 of being a notorious Nazi spy never caught by the Allies during the war, who caused the deaths of thousands and is wanted for war crimes. Jake Bernstein runs into a series of unexpected obstacles and complications: This spy knows a secret that could endanger the royal family; the old woman has a beautiful granddaughter who threatens to derail his investigation; a neo-Nazi group in Ireland known as the Celtic Wolves; and a clever, cagey old woman who's not as weak as she looks.

Excerpt:
The major handed Jake a secure mobile phone, which he tucked into his jacket’s inside pocket.  Acknowledging the older man’s military background and bearing, Jake gave a quick half-salute, biting back the sarcastic retort that sprang to mind. I’m thirty-two, Major, not thirteen.
“Will do, Major,” he said and grabbed the handle of his suitcase. “Where the hell is this motor coach going, anyway? Besides the Republic of Ireland?” Major Temple’s bushy gray eyebrows arched. “No, didn’t have a chance to read the itinerary. Too busy with the files.”
Temple chomped on his pipe, one side of his mouth upturned in another wry smile. Jake sensed the man was holding something back.
“Southwest England, Wales, Republic of Ireland, a bit of Scotland. Two weeks’ worth.”
“And if I conclude this investigation in less time?”
“Then we debrief and back home you go. We’ll handle the filing of charges and arrest warrants if needed. Extradition, if necessary, for Mrs. Snider.  Well then, good luck, ol’ man.”
Jake nodded and took his leave. Outside, he hailed the guide, a friendly, outgoing sort who introduced himself as Robert Morse. The man quickly turned the suitcase over to the driver, who stowed it in the storage bin at the side of the motor coach. As soon as Robert checked him in and indicated that he could take on board his carryon, Jake moved to the coach’s front door. He suddenly stepped aside as a young, very pretty blonde climbed down, spun around and helped an elderly woman descend.
“Sorry, Robert, my grandmother has to visit the restroom.”
The blonde glanced over at Jake, grinned in greeting, then took her grandmother’s arm and followed the direction of Robert’s sweeping arm. The two women entered the glass-fronted hotel lobby and walked slowly around the corner of the lobby’s counter. Jake’s gaze clung to them.
So there they were. Mary McCoy Snider and her granddaughter, Meghan Larsen. What a hottie!
“Quite a looker, that one,” Robert murmured them, his eyes following their progress as well.

Interview with Lacey Wolfe author of Wanted: Wife

Love, Again
a Valentine’s Day anthology
from Ruby Lioness Press
releases February 14, 2012.

Welcome
Please join me in welcoming Lacey Wolfe to Love to Read Romance.
Please share a short bio with us:
Lacey Wolfe has always had a passion for words, whether it’s getting lost in a book or writing her own. From the time she was a child she would slip away to write short stories about people she knew and fantasies she wished would happen. It has always been her dream to be a published author and with her two children now of school age, she finally has the time to work on making her dream come true.
Lacey lives in Georgia with her husband, son and daughter, their six cats and one black lab who rules the house.

Can you tell us more about Wanted: Wife?
Wanted:Wife was inspired by all cheesy romances out there. Darcy is out of a job and about to lose her apartment. She has been searching for a job but is down on her luck. Every morning she searches the help wanted ads, but this one morning she sees an ad that she thinks has to be a joke or else someone is more desperate than she is. Someone has an ad in the paper for a wife. Before she knows what she’s doing, she responds.

Steve is looking for a wife so he can keep the family business. His grandfather owns an apple orchard and Steve needs to find his queen for the orchard. But the only women he attracts are just after him for his money. So he decides to put an ad in the paper. When he gets a response from Darcy White he wonders if there is any way it could be the same Darcy he was in love with in highschool.

The two meet and find that they do know one another and they always had the hots for each other in high school but never acted on it. Now just might be that time to get their high school fantasies come to life.

Where did the idea come from?
Pretty much from any cheesy movie or book you’ve read where the whole idea is so far-fetched that you just fell in love with the story. I wanted this story to be just that.

What sort of research did you do for this book?
There wasn’t any research for this book, unless watching sappy love stories count.

Do you have a common theme or item that appears in each of your books?
I like women with attitudes. Though I just finished a work in progress where the heroine was a little weaker in the beginning but by the end she found her backbone.

Who has inspired you as an author?
I love to create stories. I’ve always had those voices you hear about from each author. Writing is something I’ve always done and just recently decided to take it more seriously.

Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing?
A drink and candy.

How do you remember ideas that come to you at odd times?
That odd time is usually while I’m in the shower. I have several notebooks that I jot scenes down in.

Describe your writing in three words.
Sweet. Spicy. Romantic

What are some of your favorite books? Who are you reading now?
I love a good Jennifer Crusie or Janet Evanovich. I like fun and quirky romances that bring me in for the love and keep me entertained by the humor.

What's next for you?
I just had the second book in my Hot Bods series release. Its titled More Than Useful. The third book has been submitted so I’m in the game of patience as I wait for a response. I’m also working on a BDSM erotic romance that is so out of my norm that I’m having a lot of fun writing it.

Where can you be found online?
My website is www.laceywolfe.com

Do you have anything you'd like to ask our readers?
I think the Love, Again anthology is a great book full of many different authors. Have you ever found a favorite author from reading an anthology?

Wanted: Wife by Lacey Wolfe
Darcy White is between jobs and is about to lose everything she has. She reads the help-wanted ads every morning. Day after day, she fails at finding anything—that is, until one morning when she comes across an ad she finds intriguing. The help-wanted ad in the paper states that a man is looking for a wife. Before she knows what she’s doing, Darcy’s exchanging emails with him, agreeing to meet him for lunch.

Steven McDonald is looking for a wife in order to keep his family business, an apple orchard, as his grandfather told him that he couldn’t keep this orchard unless he got married. He gets the crazy idea to put a want ad in the paper. After a lot of nutty women respond, one e-mail comes through with a name that sounds very familiar: Darcy White. He was in love with Darcy in high school, but was too afraid to step away from the popular crowd to talk to her. He spent countless nights just thinking about her. Could this be his second chance?
From the moment they enter each other’s lives again, the chemistry is there. Steven believes that Darcy is even better than he remembered her. This is Darcy’s dream come true; she hopes that Steven might start to feel the same way about her as she feels for him.

Interview with Tamaria Soana author of Vows

Love, Again

a Valentine’s Day anthology
from Ruby Lioness Press
releases February 14, 2012.

Welcome to LtRR!
Please share a short bio with us:
I’m Tamaria Soana, I live in western New York. I just turned 40 and feel like my life has just begun. I’m married and the mother of two active daughters 3 and 7.

Can you tell us more about Vows?
In Vows, Addison has to make an extremely difficult and life altering decision.  She gets a little guidance from a guardian angel and rediscovers herself.
What I hope people walk away with from this book is that you won’t really lead a happy life unless you are happy within yourself.

Where did the idea come from?
I believe many women lose themselves after motherhood. I guess being a mom of two young girls I really understood Addison.

What sort of research did you do for this book?
The story came from my heart. I did have to do some on-line research on angels.

Do you have a common theme or item that appears in each of your books?
Not really, my leading lady will always be strong and have resolution. Besides that I will always give an HEA.

Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing?
Music and something to munch on such as chips or popcorn

How do you remember ideas that come to you at odd times?
I write them down as soon as they hit me. I have woken up in the middle night and grabbed a pen and a notebook.

What are some of your favorite books? Who are you reading now?
I love romance books and I’m a huge Twilight fan!
I’m currently reading Dating a Cougar by Donna McDonald

What's next for you?
My debut Novella Obsession releases on March 19th, and I have a few other books in the works.

Where can you be found online?

Do you have anything you'd like to ask our readers?
I’m asking these two questions out of pure curiosity.

What is your favorite genre?

I read mostly romance, all heat levels ;)

And do you need a HEA in every book you read?

For me yes! If the couple that I’ve invested time getting to know through reading the book, doesn’t have an HEA, I feel cheated.

Interview with Melissa Keir author of Forever Love

Love, Again
a Valentine’s Day anthology
from Ruby Lioness Press
releases February 14, 2012.

Hi Melissa and welcome to Love to Read Romance!
Please share a short bio with us.

Imagine the Brady Bunch without Alice and you’ve got a pretty good picture of my life.  As a part of a blended family with two children from each of our previous marriages, my husband and I have created a new home and family that encompasses our teenage and young adult children, two fur-babies, a high grocery bill, and a lot of laundry.

Growing up as the oldest of five daughters, I was taught to fish, hunt and to work hard by my father.  He didn’t believe in forcing gender roles.  My grandmother taught me to cook, sew and care for others. And my mom taught me the importance of being me… she let me color my hair, cut it in the latest styles and fight for what I believed in.

Today, I try to instill those ideals and a love of reading to my own children and future generations as an elementary school teacher. My family have made me a better person and provided me with support, great lines for my books, and a few gray hairs.  But I firmly believe that each experience makes us stronger and better.

Can you tell us more about Forever Love in the Love, Again Valentine Anthology?
Forever Love is the story of a woman who escapes her small town life after high school for the bright lights and anonymity of the big city.  But when her father is facing his toughest battle, Alzheimer’s, she comes home to care for him and finds herself face to face with the one guy who broke her heart.  Can they find a way back from the pain of the past?  Or will he forever be the one that got away?

Where did the idea come from? My idea came from my own home town of Amherst, Ohio.  It was a tranquil place to grow up but was stifling as a teenager.  When everyone knows your name and calls your parents to tell what you were up to, it grates on your nerves.  But as an adult, you can’t escape your past and those idyllic years come back to haunt you.

What sort of research did you do for this book? With Forever Love, I did some research on Alzheimer’s and jewelry making.

Do you have a common theme or item that appears in each of your books? I enjoy writing about women who face adversity but come out the better for it.  In Forever Love, Syn is dealing with her father’s battle with Alzheimer’s and must rearrange her life to take care of the man who was her first hero.

Who has inspired you as an author? My mom wrote a romance story when I was a teenager and worked hard to have it published.  This was back in the time before e-publishing and while she never had her book published, she served as an inspiration for me.  When in college, one of my English professors pushed me to explore my thoughts in poetry and served as a mentor, reading through all of my work and celebrated with me when one of my poems won an award.  My family has been the strongest supporter and have given me the support to follow this dream.  Auntie Squirrel (to protect the innocent) was an editor and writer and loved to read my musings, always encouraging me to get published.  But it was my hubby who picked up the slack at home and serves as my sounding board that has been most helpful.

Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing? My only must have is my computer.  It is an extension of my hands.  I took it with me on my honeymoon and to the doctor’s office.  You never know when something will hit!

How do you remember ideas that come to you at odd times? I keep a notebook of ideas that I can come back to.  It also helps to share my thoughts with my husband who serves as my sounding board.  The poor man is forced to hear me ramble at all hours!

Describe your writing in three words. sweet, romantic, humorous

What are some of your favorite books? Who are you reading now? The question is what am I not reading!  As a book reviewer for Sizzling Hot Books, I read and write reviews on average about 5-8 books a week. In my spare time, I read the latest releases by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Patricia Biggs, Eileen Wilks, Laurell K. Hamilton, Keri Arthur and many more.  I definitely have some keeper books!  In fact, three shelves filled with books by authors that I love.  I even re-read them again and again. Today, my keeper shelves are filled with Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, Yasmine Galenorn, Karen E. Taylor, and many more!

What's next for you? Currently I have two books that are being published by Rebel Ink Press in the next few months.  I also blog on a weekly basis, interview authors and continue to write reviews. But my biggest event coming is to continue writing and publishing!

Where can you be found online? I love hearing from readers!

Prince of Ravenscar by Catherine Coulter

The #1 New York Times-bestselling author brings a daring and witty new historical romance to life, with a sparkling cast of engaging, multifaceted characters.

BLURB:
Nicholas Monroe, widowed "Prince of Ravenscar," is feeling pressure from his family to remarry. But the mysterious death of his first wife, Lily, still hangs over his head. Her brother, Richard, believes Nicholas is responsible for her death. When Richard finally confronts Nicholas, long-held secrets threaten to resurface-despite someone's desperate effort to keep them buried.

REVIEW:
Catherine Coulter’s novel, The Prince of Ravenscar, is exactly what I look for in a historical romance.  It’s romantic, suspenseful and entertaining. I was completely enthralled throughout this entire book, and I found myself completely lost and absorbed in this far away world that was once upon a time.   I found the romance I was hoping for but not really expecting.  Kidnappings, squabbles, girl fights, love and mystery make The Prince of Ravenscar an action-packed romance. Devlin, Julian, Sophie and Roxanne, the four main characters, keep this novel entertaining. Devlin keeps all the ladies entertained by pretending he is a vampire. Wearing hats, using umbrellas, staying out of the sunlight and paying a lot of attention to female’s necks, he has everyone buying in to his ridiculous and hilarious scheme. Sophie and Roxanne are clever, witty girls who are not afraid to stick up for themselves or throw a punch. The characters keep this novel interesting.  As far as the mystery and suspense goes…I was extremely surprised.  It’s there for you to see, but it’s not extremely obvious, which is exactly what I look for in a great mystery. It isn’t shouting it out loud at you. It is whispered.  I give this one 4 stars!

Awakening by Stovall Weems

Awakening by Stovall Weems (Chapter 1)

BLURB: Stop hitting the spiritual snooze button.

Are you ready to experience an awakening?
Awakening helps you stir up your slumbering soul. You’ll discover how to break out of your season of dryness or get off to a great start either in the New Year or the next season in life. Included in Awakening is a 21-Day Plan that will guide you through the principles that ensure a lasting, fresh relationship with God—even in a world where everything quickly becomes stale.
“It’s time to wake up and put an end to spiritual sluggishness! I promise this year will be the best of your life if it is your best year spiritually.” – Stovall Weems

Review:  I wasn't too sure about it when I first picked up Awakening by Stovall Weems because the cover claimed "21 days to revolutionize your relationship with God". I am always suspicious of claims to accomplish specific spiritual tasks in a specific period of time. Faith doesn't always work quite like that. However, once I started reading I found it doesn't read like a lot of theological books, but more like a friend giving you advice from his own experiences. I was also surprised to find that this book illuminated God's grace in a way that struck me deeply. I am so glad I didn't write this book off as too emotional or touchy-feely. It was a good book, although very different from what I usually read. I cannot say whether the 21-day fasting devotional plan works, because I have not tried it. However, I highly recommend it to anyone who thinks fasting is too spiritually severe. I truly think it would help revitalize your relationship with God, even if you don't experience some of the miracles described in the book. This would be an ideal book for a discussion or study group. I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

A World Apart Review and Giveaway

BLURB:
In a war that’s not hers, she loses everything.
Everything she loses is because of him.
Forgiveness is not an option.
Or maybe...

Lieutenant Cassandra Toma, trauma surgeon in the Romanian National Army starts her deployment at a joint-unit air base on a wrong foot, clashing on her first day with her new commander, Major David Hunt. Her rebellious nature and sassiness rival her excellent performance in the operating room—the only reason why she's not reprimanded, or maybe not the only reason.

They meet. They clash. A forbidden passion consumes them with the intensity of an erupting volcano, leaving her heartbroken and him with tarnished honor and pride as an officer. The only way out for David is disappearing into the dangerous warzone in Iraq. Their flame was supposed to be over when destiny brings them back under the same roof, this time with a common goal—to find Cassandra's brother, Maj. Robert Toma, kidnapped by insurgents while on patrol.

To rescue Robert, Cassandra and David put aside their resentments, uniting forces against a common enemy. Trying to forget the painful past, Cassandra opens up to give David—and their love—another chance. What she doesn’t realize is that her anguish is the result of David’s impetuous action—one reckless choice he made for which she may never forgive him.

His mistake, his secret, could cost them both the love they've finally found.

EXCERPT
David shook his head, scrunching his eyebrows. “Have you looked around, Cassandra? Do you have the smallest idea where we are?”
“Yes,” she jutted her chin up, her voice a rasp, “in a rat’s hole I don’t give a damn about. I could care less about the people here, nor want anything to do with them. This is not my war. I said it before, I’ll say it again. The only reason I’m here is for Robert, and Robert only.” She inhaled deeply, squeezing dreadful tears between her eyelids. “If you don’t want to help, that’s fine. But don’t try to stop me.” She turned to walk away, but David caught her wrist. “What—”
“Look around you. I get it you don't care about being here, or about the people, but you have a choice—the choice of staying alive and safe, here on the base. They,” he pointed at the beds, “didn't.”
Three soldiers occupied the room, one without an arm, another without a leg. The third one had bandages around his head, half of his face disfigured with burns.
Her stomach twisted, a strong taste of bile rising in her throat.
“And what am I supposed to do, David? Just sit around and wait?” She glanced at Laura who, standing in the doorway, waved a nurse not to enter. Grateful that Laura spared her the embarrassment of being heard by others, she turned to David and said, “I have to at least try to find him, I have to.” Her eyes burned with tears, her voice choked up. “He is somewhere out there, and must be found, alive...” Her stomach turned to a fire pit, pain forcing her to bend forward.
David grabbed her by the shoulders and for a moment, Cassandra thought he’d embrace her. Instead, he blinked quickly, pushed her slightly away and rubbed her upper arms, shaking his head, his voice heavy. “Cass ... You won’t be allowed to go anywhere. If your assignment is here on the base, in the hospital, then you'll follow orders. This is not Romania.”
She opened her mouth to speak, but David raised a hand. “There's no point in arguing, trust me.” He limped around the first bed, put gloves and a mask on and added, “Come, let's finish the rounds.”
IMHO:

A World Apart is a story with lots of emotion; two people from opposite sides of the earth are thrown together and have to deal with their troublesome pasts and an unpredictable future. Ms. Skiba is a very talented writer with powers of description that are clear and strong. She portrays characters that are very real. Her knowledge of things military and medical gives this story a lot of realism.
I love a story with lots of plot twists and this one does not disappoint. Ms. Skiba does an excellent job at showing us a love story of how opposites attract. Initially set on the Black Sea and then to a war torn Iraq, Ms. Skiba brings the cultures to life and makes them a realistic part of the story. I also like how she draws the parallels between the Iraqi and Romanian cultures.
The romantic scenes are really sexy and the action scenes are realistic and tense. I wasn’t disappointed, it’s a good solid read, one that plays with your emotions right up to the end. Ms Skiba dedicates this book to the fighting men and women overseas, which hits especially close to home for me, as the mother of a military man. Keep a hankie handy you may need it. I give it 5 stars and can’t wait to see what else Ms. Skiba does!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
I WRITE. I LOVE. I DREAM. I WRITE.
I’m Chris’ wife, Patrick’s mom and Bella’s owner. During the day, I’m the assistant to the Director at SESE at Arizona State University, and romance’s slave at night.
I moved to the U.S eight years ago, following my heart and the man who stole it. I love comedies, historical dramas and happily-ever-after stories. English is not my native, not my second, but my third language.
Some fun facts about me:
Each year I participate in one big event that requires me to physically train. My biggest sportive accomplishment was the 3-day 60-mile Susan G. Komen Walk.
Annually I pick a color I decree my favorite (this year it’s salmon).
I refused to text until 2010, always preferring to hear voices rather than sending emotionless messages. Politic bores me to death and I have no tolerance for arrogance.
“A World Apart” is my second book. My debut novel “Hidden Heart” came out March 2011.
